Srinagar to Leh Expedition with Umling La

A 07-night, 08-day expedition from Srinagar to Leh that opens with a night on a Dal Lake houseboat, crosses Sonamarg, Zoji La and Kargil with its moon-like Lamayuru landscapes — then runs the full Ladakh loop: Nubra, Pangong, Hanle and Umling La. Cab/Tempo Traveller or biking options.

Itinerary Breakdown

Arrive in Srinagar and report to the designated houseboat point for your transfer to the houseboat on Dal Lake. Welcome session and briefing with the trip captains; dinner on board and overnight on the houseboat.

An early start towards Sonamarg with snow-capped peaks and scenic valleys; bikers collect their Royal Enfield Himalayans and join the convoy after a riding briefing. Cross mighty Zoji La, ride through Dras Valley and visit the Kargil War Memorial. Dinner and overnight in Kargil.

Over Namika La (12,198 ft) and Fotu La (13,479 ft) to the ancient Lamayuru Monastery with its moon-like landscapes, then Sangam, Magnetic Hill and Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, ending with sunset at Shanti Stupa. Dinner and overnight in Leh.

Over Khardung La (18,080 ft) to Diskit Monastery and its 100-ft Maitreya Buddha, then the cold desert and Hunder Sand Dunes. Optional double-hump camel or ATV rides at own cost. Bonfire, dinner and overnight camp in Nubra.

The scenic Shyok route to Pangong Tso (13,860 ft) — the famous colour-changing lake and the 3 Idiots and Jab Tak Hai Jaan shooting spots. Lakefront sunset and stargazing; dinner and overnight in lakeside cottages.

Through remote high-altitude landscapes past Chushul, Tsaga and Loma to Hanle (~15,000 ft) on the ancient Silk Route. Rezang La War Memorial, the Indian Astronomical Observatory (optional) and stargazing. Dinner and overnight in a homestay/cottage.

An early start for Umling La — the world’s highest motorable road — with photography at the top, then back to Leh with pit stops en route, visiting the 3 Idiots School and Shanti Stupa. Overnight in Leh.

After breakfast, transfer to Leh airport for your onward journey — the expedition wraps up with smiles and memories.

Notes

  • Free cancellation up to 60 days before departure (booking amount non-refundable); fees of 10% (59–45 days), 25% (44–30 days), 50% (29–15 days), 75% (15–8 days) and 100% (within 7 days) apply thereafter.
  • 60% of the trip cost must be paid at least 60 days before the trip starts.
  • Prices are per person and vary by mode: seat in cab/SUV/Tempo Traveller, dual rider, solo 500cc, Himalayan 411 (solo/pillion) or bring-your-own-bike (fuel excluded).
  • Biking options carry a fully refundable security deposit of ₹5,000 (Classic/Std) or ₹10,000 (Himalayan); a luggage backup vehicle runs with groups of 10+.
  • Day 1 is for acclimatisation — stay hydrated and avoid exertion; nights are very cold and mobile network/electricity are limited in Nubra, Pangong and Hanle.
  • No refunds for services affected by weather, landslides, road blocks or force majeure; trips called off before departure due to natural calamity earn a travel voucher valid 365 days.
