EPIC ROAD TRIP

Manali to Leh & Back via Umling La from Delhi

10N / 11D

The definitive 10-night, 11-day Manali–Leh–Manali circuit starting from Delhi: overnight transfer to Manali, Sarchu over Baralacha La, the Gata Loops and Tanglang La into Leh — then Nubra, Pangong, Hanle and Umling La before returning down the same legendary highway. Delhi–Manali Volvo both ways, with Tempo Traveller/cab or a 9-day biking option.

Price shown is per person, starting at the triple-sharing seat-in-cab fare; biking modes (dual rider, solo 500cc, Himalayan 411, bring-your-own-bike) are priced separately.

Itinerary Breakdown

Arrive at Delhi airport or railway station, head to the pick-up point and board your transfer to Manali for the overnight journey.

Check in, freshen up and attend the welcome briefing on the itinerary and altitude precautions. The rest of the day is at leisure — Hadimba Devi Temple, Vashisht Temple or Mall Road on your own. Avoid heavy activity, alcohol and smoking for proper acclimatisation. Overnight in Manali.

Through the Atal Tunnel with views of Sissu Valley, past Keylong, Jispa and Darcha, with photo stops at Deepak Tal and Zing Zing Bar, over Suraj Tal and Baralacha La (16,040 ft) to Sarchu (14,070 ft). Dinner under the stars and overnight camp.

Conquer the Gata Loops (21 sharp hairpins), cross Nakee La (15,547 ft) and Lachung La (16,600 ft), halt at Pang for lunch, ride the 40 km of More Plains and top it with Tanglang La (17,480 ft) before reaching Leh. Dinner and overnight in Leh.

Over Khardung La (18,080 ft) to Diskit Monastery and its 100-ft Maitreya Buddha, then the cold desert and Hunder Sand Dunes. Optional double-hump camel or ATV rides at own cost. Bonfire, dinner and overnight camp in Nubra.

The scenic Shyok route to Pangong Tso (13,860 ft) — the famous colour-changing lake and the 3 Idiots and Jab Tak Hai Jaan shooting spots. Lakefront sunset and stargazing; dinner and overnight in lakeside cottages.

Through remote high-altitude landscapes past Chushul, Tsaga and Loma to Hanle (~15,000 ft) on the ancient Silk Route. Rezang La War Memorial, the Indian Astronomical Observatory (optional) and stargazing. Dinner and overnight in a homestay/cottage.

An early start for Umling La — the world’s highest motorable road — with photography at the top, then back to Leh with pit stops en route, visiting the 3 Idiots School and Shanti Stupa. Overnight in Leh.

Down the Manali–Leh Highway: Tanglang La (5,328 m), Lachung La (5,065 m) and Nakee La (4,738 m), the 50 km More Plains and the famous Gata Loops. Dinner and overnight camp in Sarchu.

Through Jispa, Keylong, Tandi and Sissu, over Baralacha La and through the Atal Tunnel to Manali, where you are dropped at the Volvo bus stand for the overnight journey to Delhi. No stay in Manali on the return leg.

Wake up as your Volvo reaches Delhi in the morning — the circuit concludes with smiles and memories.
